The hamsa is a palm-shaped amulet that is popular in Israel. Women wear necklaces adorned with a hamsa, or you may see them near the front door of a house or inside bearing a home blessing.

The hamsa, which derives its name from the number five – chamesh – in Hebrew, is also sometimes called The Hand of Miriam after the sister of Moses, in whose merit the Israelites had fresh water during their sojourn in the desert.

This lovely Jewish symbol is adorned with ‘Jerusalem’ written in Hebrew and is a beautiful reminder of the Holy City. This pendant would look equally at home on a silver chain or a leather tie.
