The Hanukah holiday, also known as the festival of lights, celebrates the miracle that coincided with the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. Greek King Antiochus’ troops defiled the Holy Temple during the 167 – 160 BCE Maccabee revolt against the Seleucid Empire. When the Maccabees entered the Holy Temple, they found only one oil cruise to light the menorah. They lit the oil, and miraculously it burned for eight days and nights!
Jewish people traditionally light candles in a hanukiah (a menorah has seven branches while a hanukiah holds nine candles, specifically for the holiday of Hanukah) every night for the eight days of the Hanukah holiday. The ninth candle, which is set higher or separated from the eight candles, is called a samesh, a helper candle used to light the eight candles.
Many families have a tradition to have each member of their household light their own candles, and it is lovely to see a table adorned with various hanukiot.
The team at Karshi Judaica has created a strikingly beautiful miniature hanukiah with ornate filigree design, colorful green enameling, crystals, and gold plating. It is fully functional and beautiful to keep up all year long as it brings an elegant touch of the Holy Land into your home.
This petite version of a full-size hanukiah makes a wonderful gift for yourself or someone you love.

Naftali Karshi established Karshi Judaica after he arrived in the fledgling State of Israel in 1955. When Naftali arrived, he settled in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Mamilla in front of the Old City walls. Mamilla was a dangerous neighborhood at that time as it was right next to the border controlled by Jordan!
Naftali began studying goldsmithing in Jerusalem and the exceptional craftsmanship needed to make his beautiful Judaica. His small business developed a reputation for the highest quality handmade items. Naftali drew his inspiration from the Land of Israel and his family’s strong ties to their Jewish faith.
Today the business is under the leadership of his son Uziel. After school, Uziel would spend his afternoons with his father watching and learning Naftali’s metalworking secrets and artistic style.
Uziel and his team continue to make unique Judaica in the tradition of Naftali; each piece from concept to creation is made with love, care, and concern.
